You may know about me, but you don’t know me. So who am I? My name is Jamila Mikhail (Жамийла Михаил) or just Meela for short. I’m just a human searching for their place in the world, someone who wants to learn, love, make a living and live a good life. That sounds a lot like you doesn’t it? These kinds of descriptions aren’t my thing because I’m an enigma even to myself and I’m constantly rediscovering what it means to be both Meela and a human.
Real humanity presents a mixture of all that is most sublime and beautiful with all that is vilest and most monstrous in the world. ~Mikhail Bakunin
I was born June 15th, 1996 to a French mother and a German father but I was adopted by a family of Russian heritage when I was one month old (so don’t ask me where the Cyrillic name comes from) and drifted around most of Canada for much of my life. I love history, different cultures and a lot of diversity and I’ve certainly not lacked any of that in my life thus far. I’m a crazy cat lady who is blessed to share my life with a little calico named Squeaker and aside from my childish obsession with dolls and toy model kits my greatest passions are reading and writing. You can find me writing anything from a good old fashioned snail mail letter to a poem and to a whole novel.
I’m also passionate about social issues and aspire to complete a degree in human rights in the near future. I originally started this blog to post about relevant and often controversial issues that involved society, religion, politics and more of that stuff that makes people’s brains upside down but over time this became my outlet for my jumbled up life and everything else that seems to pass through my head. You can expect to hear me criticizing your government, contemplating my spirituality, taking trips back to the 1940s (and yes that includes the Soviet Union) and writing about the mundane oddities of everyday life, including getting lost in translation… 😛
You may be surprised to hear that I barely speak Russian (my folks barely spoke it themselves after generations of living in non-Slavic communities) and that French is my native tongue but learning languages is another one of my favorite pastimes. I also have a huge sense of humor, am an avid TV watcher, a liberal-minded but deep thinker and the rest is yours to discover. 😀
